Colorful Kingdom

September, 17

“This community event brings out the very best in St. Johnsbury and attracts thousands of visitors to our downtown,” says Tara Holt, director of the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce. “Colors of the Kingdom is our annual fall foliage festival that involves many organizations”

Vermont_Northern_Kingdom_35Train rides from St. Johnsbury’s historic Welcome Center take passengers along the scenic Connecticut River. The views are stunning, as you travel through New England’s distinctive Boreal Forest of the upper Connecticut River Watershed. Vermont’s rolling hills define one side, while the granite peaks of New Hampshire’s White Mountains soar over the other. All along both sides of this powerful river, native oak, maple, aster and birch trees will be putting on their colorful pageant.

The celebration begins on Friday, September 16, with a performance by Sierra Hull  at St. Johnsbury Academy-Fuller Hall, presented by Kingdom County Productions.

On Saturday, September 17, the fun starts at 8AM with a pancake breakfast at the St. Johnsbury House. There are sales and crafts and activities for the whole family throughout the day. Here are just a few highlights:

  • Train rides and open-air vendors around the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center are organized by the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.
  • Catamount Arts offers “Owl Craft” for families (10AM to 2PM)
  • The Fairbanks Museum offers free admission and planetarium presentation all day (9AM to 5PM — check the website for planetarium show time).
  • The St. Johnsbury Farmers’ Market — the largest market in the county — offers the season’s bounty.
